E-scooter stations to be installed in New Town

New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) in collaboration with ‘Zoomcar’ has decided to introduce app based electric scooter stations in New Town. E-scooters will be stationed in the stations placed at all important crossings and other designated areas. It is believed that these e-scooters will improve connectivity in the town. NKDA has also decided to set up charging stations across Newtown for electric vehicles. NKDA officials recently discussed the app-based e-scooter service with CEO of Zoomcar and Pedal Public Cycle, Greg Moran. The scooters will have electric motors powering them and will be linked with GPS. An e-scooter will be able to run 80 KM with a full charge. People will be able to hire the scooters, lock or unlock it through a mobile app and return it to any nearby e-scooter station. Payment for hiring these scooters will be made through digital wallets. NKDA chairman Debashis Sen, “We have several green modes of transport in New Town. We have a bicycle rental service and are also running battery-operated buses. We are encouraging residents to use e-vehicles and have set up charging stations for them”.
