Visit The Prettiest Hamlet in West Bengal

Tinchuley is actually a hamlet in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It is a small village covered by mountains. Tinchuley is situated at a height of 5800 ft. Do you know the meaning of “Tinchuley”? It is the combination of three chulhas (ovens). There is a valid reason behind this. The place is surrounded by three hill tops which looks like ovens from a distance. It also faces the hills of Kalimpong.

How to reach: Take trains to NJP and from there hire a car and drive towards Teesta Bazar and reach Takdah Bazaar. From there you need to go to Tinchuley. Tinchuley is 77 kms from Bagdogra airport. If someone is coming from Kalimpong then it is just 35 kms and it will take hardly 2 hours to travel. Shared taxis, cars, private taxi, Maruti vans are widely available.

What to see: Scenic beauty is the primary watch in Tinchuley. Orange orchards of Nirmals’ should be visited. They also produce fresh juice, pickles and many other such items. Tinchuley has a monastery. This is the place where a Lama has prayed for long 17 years. The tea gardens in Tinchuley are worth a watch. There are six tea gardens altogether. Tea factories are also there. You can pay a visit to have a lifetime experience. When you are visiting hilly areas then sunrise is must from Tinchuley view point. You can also walk through the forest and finally end up in Gumbadara, a view point. From this point river Rangeet and part of Sikkim is also visible. Nature trails and trekking in Tinchuley is also very enjoyable for nature lovers.

Where to stay: Though Tinchuley is a small mountain village but you will get ample place to stay. There are many home stays where you are free to stay at affordable price range. Else there are guest houses also. All the stays are updated with new furnishings along with geysers. Foods are available at the home stays and guest houses with extra payment.

If you are visiting Tinchuley then try to make plans during October to April. If the sky remains cloud free, it becomes easier to enjoy the Mountain View. Otherwise, you are free to travel at any point of time in a year.
