Debasish Sen Sharma is up for TELL TALES 2018

The maker of “Aranyadeb” is now geared up with the stalwarts of the theatre genre for his upcoming “Tell Tales 2018”. A wonderful initiative and probably for the first time in the history of theatre segment, theatre director of New York City, Rosalie Tamar Purvis has come over all the way to enrich the cultural aspects of Kolkata.

Tell Tales 2018 is the annual theatre festival of CHAEPANI.

Chaepani is presenting this evening of Tell Tales in collaboration with The Centre for Studies in Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Department Of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University and The Department of Performing and Media Arts , Cornell University(U.S.A.)

What is Tell Tales 2018?

Carrying the legacy of its last year’s performance of ROOT MAP, a five country theatrical collaboration, Chaepani is all set in 2018 to take off Tell Tales with an evening of stories – stories of wishes and stories of flight.

The primary attraction of the evening is staging of famous Latin American playwright Jose Rivera’s play The Winged Man for the first time in India. Chaepani is happy to collaborate with the eminent choreographer/theatre director from New York Rosalie Purvis as its co-director along with Debasish Sen Sharma.

 A brief profile of the directors:

Rosalie Tamar Purvis

Theatre director in New York City by way of dance/choreography and devoted the past 15 years to play development with a focus on multi-lingual and cross-cultural performance. Since the late 90s , has been teaching writing, directing, acting, literature, English and theatre studies at a broad range of universities, grad programs (and some High school programs) to students from all over the world.

Whose tales to tell?

The evening will also witness multiple short theatrical performances from four eminent theatre groups from Kolkata – Hypocrites, Dil Ki Duniya, RAMP ART and Team Nagma on the theme of ‘Stories of wishes. Stories of Flight’.

 

The Guest-of –Honour of the show will be Prof Debra Castillo, the Emerson Hinchcliff Chair of Hispanic Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature, Cornell University.

Other eminent dignitaries of the city from the field of film and theatre will be present in the evening.

CHAEPANI

Chaepani is a collective space that fosters an interdisciplinary approach towards expressions and communication through various forms like theatre, film, storytelling and visual design.  It tries to bring together expertise and experiences from the diverse fields of performing arts to create a holistic model of communication and growth.

Kolkata is always ready for any sorts of experiments and now when Debasish Sen Sharma is offering them such a wonderful opportunity to witness an event like this, then it is definitely a must watch.
