CU to conduct online entrance exam for PG courses

The Calcutta University has decided to conduct entrance examinations for all the 66 Post Graduate courses online from this year. The examination would be a centralized admission test for both postgraduate departments and self-financed master’s programmes. Till last year this centralized entrance exam was conducted offline. The 162 years old university reported that online mode of examination will be adopted for greater transparency and prompt publication of results. Vice-chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee said, “We decided to go online to make the examination system more transparent. By eliminating pen and paper, we can avert problems such as question papers not reaching the centers on time or wrong question papers being distributed. It will also cut down on the time taken for publication of results”. Candidates will be allotted designated centers where they will have to appear for this online exam. The new academic session of 2019 for postgraduate courses is scheduled to start in August and the dates of the online entrance exam will be announced shortly by the university. Vice-chancellor Chakravarti Banerjee also said that students appearing for the postgraduate semester examinations will have to write the tests at centers set up in other colleges for ensuring transparency.
