Compulsory fire-audit for business-market places

High-rises, shopping malls, market complexes and business establishments of similar nature have to make fire audit once in a year to sustain their business right commanded the state Fire department.

"All the high-rise buildings, malls and marketplaces need to do fire audit every year else their business license will be cancelled. I shall go through the present act and if there is no provision, then the government will bring in a new act for the same," said Firhad Hakim, who has taken the charge of the Fire department after Sovan Chatterjee resigned.

"A number of high-rises, shopping malls and the like have in-built firefighting system. They will have to conduct fire drills every three months and get the clearance certificate from the Corporation or the local civic bodies. All the fire safety equipment will have to be functional. The Fire department is also thinking of developing logistic parks adjacent to the markets so that people can collect the goods from there. This will reduce the burden of combustible substances in the market,” headded.

To maintain transparency in the issuance of fire certification, the entire system will be done online and applicants will get their certificates within a month. Also all the fire stations will be connected through GPS system, in case there is any stop calling at 101, the nearest fire station can respond in a flash.
