Chief Secretary conducts meeting to boost metro projects

The Chief Secretary of West Bengal Malay De has recently conducted an executive meeting at Nabanna to boost the ongoing metro railway projects in the state. The high level meeting was attended by senior state government officials and Metro Railway officials. A lot of important discussions took place during the meeting and important decisions were taken as well, one of which is that proposed Metro corridor from Kolkata Airport to New Barrackpore which falls under the Airport-Barasat Metro project will be set up underground. The government has assured the Metro officials about the availability of necessary lands for the project. The Railway Board had approved the stalled Airport-Barasat Metro project last December and the state government now wants to speed up the construction works for the project. Due to unavailability of land it is also mutually decided that the 7 km long metro corridor from Airport to BT College will be set up underground and then it would come up to New Barrackpore via Doltala. The proposed route for New Garia-Airport Metro project will also be realigned due to land problem near Chingrighata on EM Bypass which happens to be a highly populated area. The Chief Secretary Malay De has formed a committee to look into the matter which would be led by the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Principal Secretary Subrata Gupta. State Home secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay too was present during the meeting.
