Chatbot Meena to be available soon

Google has come out with its new chat-bot named ‘Meena’ and claims that it is more conversational than the existing Siri, Alexa and Cortana. Google defines it as the best chatbot in the market which can talk with the users about anything and everything. But what are these chatbots? Chatbots are Artificial Intelligence systems which interact with users via text messages or speech. Currently there are a lot of chatbots in the market and these are used for various purposes like customer service, e-commerce facilitator, food delivery etc. The chatbot market is so in demand that it is expected to grow to $9.4B soon. Google has described chatbot Meena as a multi-turn, open-domain chatbot which is trained in an end-to-end fashion. It is based on Google’s Seq2seq model and comprises of 2.6B parameters and 300GB of text data including social media conversations. Google in a blog post said, "We present Meena, a multi-turn open-domain chatbot trained end-to-end on data mined and filtered from public domain social media conversations. This 2.6B parameter neural network is trained to minimize perplexity, an automatic metric that we compare against the human judgement of multi-turn conversation quality". The blog post added, “We are evaluating the risks and benefits associated with externalizing the model checkpoint, however, and may choose to make it available in the coming months to help advance research in this area”. The researchers associated with developing this chatbot said, “While we have focused solely on sensibleness and specificity in this work, other attributes such as personality and factuality are also worth considering in subsequent works. Also, tackling safety and bias in the models is a key focus area for us, and given the challenges related to this, we are not currently releasing an external research demo”. Google has reported that Meena is yet to achieve perfection and it is expected to be available for all users very soon.
