Chandrabindoo singer to act in fans film?

Upal is likely to be part of Orko Sinha's Aamar Aami

When 26-year-old Orko Sinha scripted his first film, little did he know that his favourite singer would agree to be part of it, and that too, as an actor! If all goes well, Aamar Aami is likely to see Chandrabindoo vocalist Upal Sengupta get under the skin of an important character. The singer had made fleeting appearances as himself in films before, but this venture would mark his debut as an actor.

Aamar Aami, a film on suppressed desires, stars Rahul, Indraasish Roy, Arunima Ghosh, Biswanath Basu, Jhilik Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Banerjee and Kanchan Mallick. Kabir Chattopadhyay and Sibashish Banerjee have scored the music for the film, while the soundtrack will feature Kabir, Anupam Roy, Rupam, Rupankar and Somlata.

Talking about the project, Orko says, "We all have certain desires. Some get fulfilled, others don't. A youngster who can't play football, fulfils his wish by playing the game online. This film deals with many such longings. It's a story of psychological conflicts," says the director.

Acomputer engineer, Orko left his job with a multinational company to make his dream film. He had earlier made ads, documentaries and even worked as an assistant director in a few movies, apart from writing scripts for telefilms. Though he is tightlipped about Upal's involvement in his movie, the director says he has grown up listening to music by Kabir Suman, Anjan Dutt and Chandrabindoo.

Sources say Upal is expected to play Biswanath's alter ego in the film. But when CT got in touch with him, the singer refused to speak about the project. His bandmate Anindya Chattopadhyay has done important roles in Rituparno Ghosh's Subho Mahurat and Satyanweshi. His directorial launchpad, Opentee Bioscope, is currently on the floors.
