Cancer hospital to be set up in New Town

A new cancer hospital has been set up near the Kolkata Gate in New Town’s DG Block which houses 90 beds. The new hospital ‘HCG EKO Cancer Center’ is a joint initiative of Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG) and EKO Diagnostic Pvt Ltd. The new cancer center will have advanced facilities like surgical oncology, radiation oncology, PET CT, bone marrow transplant and medical oncology facilities. The chairman and CEO of HCG, B.S. Ajaikumar explained why he thought of setting up a new cancer center in Bengal and told that a majority of the patients they treat in their Bangalore‘s home center were from Bengal and north-eastern states. The new center at New Town also has a Radixact radiation machine, regarding which Ajaikumar said, “The radiation machine plays a vital role in external beam radiotherapy. It enables doctors to confirm the shape and position of the tumor beforehand thereby allowing high-speed precision beams to target it”. The hospital also has a section for chemotherapy patients with 16 beds since patients who undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy often need urgent specialized attention.
