Boys defeat all odds to top HS examinations

There is no success without hardship, this statement has been proven time and again by people who emerge victorious during the worst of situations. Mijanur Peyada belonging to a small neighbourhood in Lalpur village of Mathurapur and Sayan Pan belonging to the village of Joyrambati proved this statement again by defeating all odds by scoring marvelously is their Higher Secondary examinations.

Mijanur belongs to a small neighborhood of 100 0dd families of farmers, fishermen, laborers and daily wagers. His village mostly consists of backward, uneducated people and has only first generation learners, most of whom drop out of school due to disinterest or financial woes. His father is a hawker who knocks door after door, daily to sell Ayurvedic medicine. With a mere income of 5000-7000 rupees a month, he hardly keeps his four sons and a daughter afloat.

By scoring 86% in his Madhyamik examinations Mijanur was awarded a scholarship by his school along with free hostel facilities. His headmaster commented that it was crucial to keep him in a more studious environment so that he could unlock his true potential. All these hardships finally proved fruitful when he scored a whopping 90.2% in his higher secondary examination -100 in mathematics, 90 in physics and biological sciences, 88 in chemistry, 83 in English and 82 in Bengali. Being the first to score a 90% not only in his school but his neighbourhood too.

He aspires to be a doctor and says that his “high marks” are the only way that he can get his family out of poverty. He has appeared for his medical entrance examinations- National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) and awaits its results.

Sayan Pan ranked 9th all over the state with 97.4% in his HS - 90 in English first language, 97 in English second language, 97 in chemistry, 99 in biological science, 95 in physics and 99 in mathematics. His father Joydeb Pan works as a farmer at a paddy field 8 kilometers from Joyrambati but at 65 his age is catching up to him and he struggles to keep his family sustained.

He topped his admission test at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur out of 600 students and hence has his fees waived and hostel available free of charge along with coaching for medical examinations making his obstacle filled journey a little easier. He aspires to be a doctor and return to his village and is currently waiting for National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) results.
