Bengal Fishing Boats To Get Equipped With Tracking System

West Bengal fishing boats are soon to be equipped with tracking systems specifically Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders. These transponders are tested by ISRO which are both effective and affordable. Up until now, it was obligatory for the vessels (more than 20 feet), to have AIS transponders for reliability and welfare. The announcement was made on the Navy Day commemorating the achievements of the marines. Since 26/11 terror attack, efforts have been made to keep track on all ships, vessels and trawlers. Apart from tracking, necessary information would be stored on the coastal areas and respective geographic landscape via these tracking systems. It would only be beneficial to have more information at disposal for better tracking performance.
