Battleground for Racism?

With the La Liga finals knocking at the door, and the FIFA World cup 2018 barely two months away, friendly matches are already under way. However, it turns out that the football pitch became a ground for racial slurs directed at players of the French national team, on the backdrop of their 3-1 win over the Russian team at the Krestovsky Stadium, St. Petersburg, which is listed as one of the key venues for the coming World cup 2018.

According to the people present in the scene, Manchester United star Paul Pogba, and Dembele, a key player of the Barcelona club had to bear the brunt of the taunts.

With no reaction presumably coming from the Russian authorities, the French sport minister has called in for a serious investigation, as it comes in from a venue which will be hosting the semi-finals and the consideration of the fact that the match was being played under serious protocols.

The FARE (Football against racism in Europe) is genuinely concerned about the incident, as it is one of the many reported yet, from Russia. With player and fan safety concerns in question against the backdrop of such an incident, FIFA president, Gianni Infantino has stated that officials can stop or even abandon matches during the World Cup if such incidents occur.
