Balurghat’s election mascot Mukha

Balurghat, like other districts of West Bengal, too has an election mascot Mukha, which is Kushmandi's mask craft. The South Dinajpur district administration came up with this mascot to encourage the younger generation for enlisting their names in the electoral roll and to scast their votes. Various districts of the state have come up with their own mascots like tiger, dolphin, and rhinoceros for the upcoming elections and Balurghat too has its own unique mascot whose images are being displayed across the district as a part of the awareness program for the voters. Since the introduction of the mascot Mukha, steady progress in the enrolment of new voters is being observed. More than 40,000 new voters were enlisted in the electoral roll since awareness campaigns began in the eight blocks of the district. An administrative officer of the district, Mahadyuti Adhikary said, “Of total 12,09,767 voters in South Dinajpur, the number of newly enlisted voters is about 40,000. During the massive awareness drive among the young generation, we have enlisted 23,000 new voters in the electoral roll in four months. The new mascot has helped us a lot".
