Actors in Indian film industry speak out on sexual harassment

There are some hush topics in every industry, and the Indian film industry is no exception. However, a few actors over the due course of time have strengthened their position to be able to raise their voices.

Lately, in a BBC documentary Radhika Apte and Usha Jadhav have shattered the mirror of façade. They have let out their repressed thoughts about how victimized people have been too scared to report anything or take any legal action. In Bollywood’s Dark Secret, Apte revealed that few people in power consider them superior to the extent of denying recognition or value to the voice of others. The victims believe that a word of attack against the people in powerful positions can ruin their career.

On the other hand, Marathi actor Usha adds a pinch of sarcasm to her tone while commenting on the men of power in the film industry who ask for sexual favours. She revealed one time when she was asked to give something in return for the break that she was getting. A woman of honour, Usha was dumbstruck after she understood that she was being pushed to share her bed with the producer, director or both!

Another actor aged twenty-five could not hold back her tears in the interview. From her village, she moved to the big city to see her dreams come alive in Bollywood. On the very first step that she took, her casting agent molested her, followed by several other shameful and terrible instances.

These actors have taken a step ahead to cease this offensive behaviour by coming to the forefront and talking about their personal experiences. They have undoubtedly lived #MeToo towards making it a wide rage and success.
