99.5% students eligible for WBJEE counselling

The results of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) of this year were declared on June 20th by Malayendu Saha, the chairman of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). Students will be able to take admission in engineering colleges in the state on the basis of the result of this examination. 1,13,912 students had registered for the examination this year and 80,979 candidates appeared for the examination, out of which 80,580 students have successfully earned a position in the merit list. Candidates with zero or negative marks did not secure a position in the rank list and hence are not eligible for counselling. This means, 99.5 percent of the students who had appeared for the WBJEE examination this year are eligible for counselling which is scheduled to begin from June 25th. However, the number of seats in engineering colleges in the state is around 34,000 and the number of state government institutions is 8 and private colleges is around 80. Counselling which is scheduled to begin on June 25th will be held in three sessions and the admission process will be over by July 20. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has congratulated the students and tweeted, "Congratulations to all students who excelled and those who passed West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2019. Good wishes to your parents and good luck for all your future endeavors."
