1000 CCTV To Strengthen Security

The Kolkata Police is all set to add another 1000 CCTV cameras to its arsenal in a bid to bring a larger section of the city under technical surveillance. The project is a part of the Smart City project and part of the funding will be allocated from Nirbhaya Fund. The Nirbhaya Fund had been set up by the central government, dedicated for implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security of women in the country. The total number of CCTV cameras in Kolkata is likely to reach 8000, with the addition of these cameras, excluding the private ones that are already installed. Led by an additional CP and the joint CP, the Lalbazar cops have been tasked with completing the installation process, including the choice of spots after taking inputs from local police. Apart from this, the police also wants to bring the educational institutions under surveillance. Ideally, the police also wants CCTV coverage inside the school and other institutional premises. In addition to this, patrolling and raids have also been strengthened with the addition of one or more vehicle in each police station.
