On Tuesday, the singer got married to his childhood friend at Tarapith temple
Arijit Singh, who burst onto Bollywood with Aashiqui 2 and followed it up with a bouquet of hit songs in both Bengal and Mumbai, secretly tied the knot with his childhood friend, Koel, on Tuesday. The ceremony, which took place at Tarapith, West Bengal, was a hush-hush affair, with only the duo's family and close friends turning up to bless the couple.
Both Arijit and Koel hail from Jiaganj in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Says a source close to the couple, "The two of them had a mannat at the Kali temple, which is why the wedding was held there. Both the families had their consent in this marriage." After the wedding, the couple travelled to Kolkata, before flying back to Mumbai on Thursday morning to attend the Filmfare Awards. In Tollywood, Arijit garnered aplause for chartbusters like Mon majhi re, Bojhena shey bojhena, Sajna and Din khon mapa aache etc.
We have heard that Koel has a baby girl from her previous marriage and the child is apparently very fond of Arijit. The singer, it's heard, was also married earlier. Arijit, who assisted Pritam early in his career, had the music director as his bor karta — the man who presides over a Bengali marriage from the groom's side. Says our source, "Arijit is a very private person and it's not surprising that the media had no whiff of what was happening on his front. He only invited all those who are really close to him, which includes just a handful of people from the music industry."
